Remove PDF Password

Creates an unprotected copy of a PDF whose open password you know. After you enter the password, the file is decrypted in your browser and an unprotected copy is downloaded; the file is never sent to a server. This tool does not crack, guess or try passwords. It only checks whether the password you enter opens the file. Pages and content stay exactly as they are; only the encryption is removed.

Passwords are case-sensitive. The password is used only for this operation; it is not saved or sent anywhere.

Use this only with PDFs you are allowed to open and whose password you know.

The Remove PDF password tool creates an unprotected copy of a PDF that needs a password to open. Use it only for your own documents or files you are authorised to open. The tool does not crack or guess passwords: if the password you enter does not open the file, the process stops.

How to use it

  1. Choose the PDF file.
  2. Type the file's open password in the box.
  3. Click Prepare.
  4. The unprotected copy is downloaded. Your original file is unchanged.

Frequently asked questions

What if I don't know the password?

The tool cannot find, crack or guess the password. Ask the person who sent you the file or the owner of the document for it.

Does this tool remove print or copy restrictions?

Not if the file opens without a password: such files only have permission restrictions, and the tool does not process them. With the open password, the copy is saved without encryption, so the permission settings stored in the file no longer apply. Only do this with documents you have the rights to.

Is my file uploaded?

No. Decryption runs in your browser. Neither the file nor the password is sent to a server.

What happens to a digitally signed PDF?

Because the file's contents change, an existing digital signature may no longer validate. Keep the signed original, and have the unprotected copy signed again if you need a valid signature.
