PDF to Excel
The PDF to Excel tool converts tables and text in a PDF with a text layer into an editable Excel file. It is useful when you want to calculate, sort or filter an invoice list, a price table or the numbers in a report. Each page can be written to its own worksheet, or all content can be collected on one worksheet. Because columns are estimated from the layout of the PDF, check the result after opening it.
How to use it
- Choose a PDF file.
- Choose the worksheet layout: one worksheet per page, or all pages on one worksheet.
- Click Prepare.
- The Excel (.xlsx) file is downloaded. Open it and check the columns.
Frequently asked questions
Can I convert a scanned PDF to Excel?
This tool only handles PDFs with a text layer. For scanned pages, use the OCR tool first, then run this tool.
Are tables copied exactly?
Tables are split into columns based on the alignment in the PDF. Tables with ruling lines usually work well; without lines, with merged cells or with nested tables, columns can shift. Numbers are copied as text; only whole numbers are saved as numbers.
Can I calculate with the numbers?
Decimal separators vary between PDFs, so decimal numbers stay as text. You can convert the selected cells to numbers with Excel’s convert-to-number feature.
Is my file uploaded to a server?
No. The file is processed in your browser and is never sent to a server. When you close the page, the file is also removed from memory.
